Greeting to all readers! Here we meet again 😉 In this article, we will talk about something more relating to readers of all ages and genders since some of you might found it hard to relate to our previous article. Nevertheless, we hope that our articles gratify you with useful and healthy information.
In recent years, there is one thing that came into the spotlight and we are sure that most of you have heard of it and that is the consumption of coconut oil and certain other kind of oils. Where these oils supposed to increase the level of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) and decrease the level of Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) in your body. And that it supposes to make you healthier and lower the risk of getting severe disease, especially heart disease. But come to think of it, is it really that good to your body to increase the level of HDL? It might seem doubtful to you if we just lay out list of disadvantages from taking these oils, since some of you might be taking it and feel some progress. So we think it would be better to first introduce you to High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDL-C).
HDL-C (a.k.a. good cholesterol) is a cholesterol with high density, synthesized from the liver. It prevents those cholesterol, triglyceride, and Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C) from accumulating in your arteries, which are the main causes for Peripheral Arterial Disease and heart diseases, to be passed on to your liver and excreted through bile instead. There are various ways to increase the level of HDL; such as exercise frequently or consume food that help increase the level of HDL. However, we cannot forget that HDL will firstly pass on those LDL to the liver before getting rid of it. This means that having high HDL may lead to Steatosis (fatty liver) or the over function of your liver, which affect your liver enzymes. In addition to that, for some people having high HDL may cause them more heart problems than others; might be because of their hereditary that does not allow HDL to function normally. So the question here is whether HDL good or bad. But fear not, because we have a formula to calculate the risk of getting a heart disease from the cholesterol level in your body for you. The formula is to divide your total cholesterol level with your HDL level. The result should be lower than 5, which means that you have low risk of having a heart disease.
Therefore, giving the name of ‘good cholesterol’ to HDL does not mean that it has no bad effect to your body at all. Anything that is excessive cannot be good to your body. So it is preferable to keep your HDL level in balance, same with everything in your body – not too much and not too little. If you can find the balance within you, there you will find happiness and satisfaction. Last but not least, we hope that more or less you found this article useful and that it answers some of those questions you have had
