An extreme temperature like nowadays weather usually results as incline in health problem, especially heatstroke or sunstroke. Heatstroke occurs when the body stays in a place with high temperature for a long time, causing a malfunction in the brain system that controls the body’s heat. This cause your body to overheat because it cannot cool down within time. The heat can be as high as 40 celsius, which can be fatal to other body systems.

Heat Stroke

The followings are notable symptoms of heatstroke: alteration in sweating that could result as no sweat, sun fatigue, flushed skin, feverish, extreme thirst, headache, nausea, hyperventilation, tensed muscle, seizures, delirium, and lose consciousness. Heatstroke can be life-threatening should the patient is not treated within time.

Children, senior citizens, people who do not have enough rest, drinkers, or those who have to work outdoor are the sensitive groups to heatstroke. The sensitive groups also include those who have a chronic disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, as well as athletes who did not prepare themselves well before training in the hot weather.

You could prevent yourself from heatstroke by drink a lot of water, at least 2 liters per day, especially on the day that has high temperature or when you have to be in the sun for a long time; wear airy and light color clothes; use sunscreen that also prevent sunburn; avoid alcohol drinks and outdoor exercise.

If you encounter people experiencing heatstroke, you should bring them to the shade immediately, lay them down, lift both of their feet, loosen their clothes, and use a cloth moistened with cold water to compress their foldable joints, armpit, and head. This will help cooling their body, then take them to a hospital immediately.

Heatstroke or sunstroke might not sound like a fatal name. However, with its severity, it could be life-threatening. Therefore, it is best to be attentive about heatstroke and its symptoms. If your body starts to give you the signal, it is highly suggested not to force your body and take rest.
