Greeting to all readers. We will be talking about beauty & esthetic again today. Our topic in focus is something all of you must have heard about, the renowned ‘Free Radicals’.
It is claimed that most of the ‘bad things’ that happen to/in our body; such as elderliness, organs degeneration, heart disease, and cancer, are caused by this Free Radicals.
But what is Free Radicals? What is the cause of it? Can we protect ourselves from it? These are the questions that we will be talking about today.
Free Radicals is an unstable molecule or atom caused by the lack of electron. In general, our body contains paired molecules or atoms with electron. Now, try imagine a bicycle with one wheel missing, that bicycle would not function anymore. Same with those paired molecules or atoms with missing electron.
It will turn to be Free Radicals that float around our body trying to find new parts to stay with. Electron may be destroyed throughout certain function of our body; such as the metabolic process, which require the use of oxygen that further result as oxygen anion or Free Radicals causing the molecules in our body to be unstable, then easily bond with other substance in our body degenerating such substance.
The reaction is called “Oxidation“. Our body actually generates Free Radicals since we were born; since it’s actually provides our body with high energy, help with killing germs, and protect us from getting sick. However, when we were a kid or a teenager our body is still able to get rid of Free Radicals efficiently.
But as we’re getting older, our body is less effective in getting rid of Free Radicals. Combine with more amount of Free Radicals we’re being exposed through our every day’s life; e.g. eating grilled or roasted beef that contain high fat, eating food fried with oil that used repeatedly, being exposed to UV rays and air pollution, consumption of alcohol, smoking, or even stress from our daily life, it results as the accumulation of Free Radicals in our body.
And if our body cannot get rid of these Free Radicals completely, the cell of various organs in our body would be damaged. For example: immune suppressants, degeneration of the body expressed in the form of premature aging, deterioration of the organs, or in worst case, cancer.
Nevertheless, it’s not like we cannot prevent or get rid of this Free Radicals at all. Our body has its’ own mechanism to get rid of these Free Radicals in 2 ways, as follows:
- The use of Enzyme that our body created to trap these Free Radicals. Unfortunately, the amount of Enzyme produced aren’t usually caught up with the amount it is needed, combine with the deteriorating of the system when we get older, the Enzyme produced seems to never be enough.
- The use of Antioxidant that our body created and also received from food; such as Vitamin A, Beta-Carotene, Anthrocyanidin, and other Poly-Phenolic compounds (e.g. Tannin, Catechin, CoenzymeQ10, or Co Q10). These Antioxidant is the main factor used to prevent and slow down any disease, including wrinkles caused by Free Radicals.
Therefore, we should give precedence to our choice of food, especially those that are beneficial to our organs, and function as a highly effective Antioxidant, such as fresh fruits and vegetables. Combining with Moreover, regular exercise also helps in good health, both from within and outside the course. Combine with the routine of exercise regularly, it is certain that you will be healthy, both inside and outside.
